babis stokasIf you’re worried about missing out on live Greek music in September because you aren’ t going to be here for an Herodion concert, or if the tickets are a bit more than you wanted to spend, the Athens Music Hall, Megaron Mousikis’ Nine Muses Atrium is the place to go for budget friendly live Greek music in September.
The motto for this year’s concert series is “Sing! Don’t be shy!”, and they’ve lined up a collection of singers who will definitely be willing to oblige. Babis Stokas, a former member of the Greek band Pyx Lax will perform songs by Manos Hadjidakis, Pavlos Sidiropoulos, and the oh so happy tunes of Yiorgos Zambetas (ok, they aren’t all happy songs, but on the scale of happiness in Greek music, Zambetas tips in favor of hand clapping and toe tapping).
On September 11 and 12, Elli Paspala joins forces with David Lynch for highlights from their 20 years in music, with highlights, again, from Hadjidakis (there is a pattern here, this Hadjidakis guy is BIG in Greece, and since you’re too late to see him, you should at least find someplace to hear his music.

September 14 and 15 bring the electro folk group Imam Baildi with Eleonora Zouganeli for an interesting evening of ethnic fusion music, and on the 17th UK born singer, Athena Andreadis will perform.
The series comes to a close with Martha Fritsila singing traditional and contemporary ballads on September 21 and 22.

Tickets are 25 euro, 10 euro for students with valid ID and are available online at www.megaron.gr or at the Megaron Mousikis – Athens Music Hall box office at Vasilias Sofia. For more information call +30-210-728-2333.

How does a little girl from Skokie, Illinois find herself in historical Athens, leading curious explorers through the winding streets of Plaka, down "pezodromos" to hidden ouzeries for tempting mezedhes and homemade barrel wine? The journey began more than twenty years ago, and regardless of whether the wanderlust comes from the spiritual and culture DNA flowing through my veins, or the alignment of the stars on that cold mid-December day this Sagitterian came into the world, I never seem to tire of exploring my adopted homeland of Greece. Here you'll join me as I explore Athens: be it the back streets of Psirri and Gazi, or through the National Gardens and Zappeio where a family of turtles makes their home, or down wide, treelined Imittou Street in Pagrati, which pulses with Athenian life 24 hours a day. And while Athens has stolen my heart, the rest of Greece vies for my curiousity and wanderlust. My two guys (that'd be the Greek God, Vasilis and our Greek dog, Scruffy) and I can often be found settling in for a long weekend in some charming mountain village, or a quaint fishing port on a nearby island, or learning how Greek vitners are producing wines that rival some of Napa Valley's finests productions, or celebrating a panayeri in Epirus or sharing in the festivities as a family of Cretan sheepherders come together to sheer their 1500 sheep in the spring ... And if you happen to find yourself heading to Athens, consider finding yourself a real home for your stay. Living amongst the locals, be it for 3 nights or 3 weeks, will offer you the chance to experience true Athens, beyond the Acropolis. Choose from one of our 5 beautiful penthouse and historical homes, and who knows, I may be leading you down that winding "pezodromo" to our favorite hidden ouzerie!

  1. Dear Friends in Greece,
We are very much interested in live recordings done at the Micro Theatre of Ancient Epidauros. Can you help us with some titles.
    Thank you in advance.
    Best regards from Denmark,
