The Old Olive Mill at Elefsina Beach, is home to the 4TH annual Aisxylia Festival. The venue, a restored Olive Mill near the mysterious archeological site of Elefsina is located less than 30 minutes by car from downtown Athens. This year the venue hosted a number of Athens Festival events, but now that summer is over it’s returning to it’s homegrown festival – the 2010 Aischyleia Festival – a line up of performances (musical and classical theater, as well as a series of movies) on the beach makes for a fine night out. From August until the end of September this festival hosts a variety of performances, and it is a fantastic opportunity to see some of Greece’s finest theatrical performers in the various ancient Greek plays they performed earlier in the season at the Athens and Epidaurus Festivals (don’t worry that they are performing in Greek – get the “Cliff Notes”, you’ll have no problem following along, and besides, the venue is great!)
To reach Elefsina Beach from Athens, there are a number of public transport options:
845 Piraeus – Elefsina (via Thivon), 871 Piraeus – Elefsina (via Λ. Σχιστού), Α16 Plateia Koumoundourou – Elefsina (via Iera Odos), Β16 Plateia Koumoundourou – Elefsina (via Athenon blvd).
In addition, on performance dates there is a specia shuttle available from the beach bus stop at Eleusis to the Egaleo metro station on the following dates:
